I've owned this laptop for about 1.5 months now and I've been very pleased so far.
The Good:
I've been running computationally intensive scientific data analysis in Matlab for my PhD work and I now use this laptop exclusively because it is faster than any of the desktops in our research lab! (Though these are admittedly a few years old, they were close to top of the line when we got them.) What's more, it runs extremely quietly and it has never gotten as hot as my old Dell laptops used to, even when CPU usage is upwards of 95%.
Having 4GB of RAM and 4 cores allows me to maximize my productivity by having 20 windows open in 7 different applications, including CPU and memory-intensive ones like Matlab and Adobe Illustrator.
The WiFi and Bluetooth antenna range seem to be decent.
I really like the size and the feel of the keys on the keyboard. I don't have enormous hands/fingers, but I think that this keyboard would be pretty good for people who do.
It also has a really cool feature: fingerprint recognition technology. Now I can log into Windows just by swiping my finger across the sensor. No more typing passwords!
Some of the pre-installed HP software is pretty cool too, like the Power Assistant, which tells you how many watts you're currently consuming (23.9 watts for me at the moment) and uses an integrated ambient light sensor to automatically adjust the monitor brightness to reduce energy usage when possible.
Integrated webcam and microphone are nice features, and seem to be adequate, though I honestly haven't used them much.
I'm running Windows 7 Professional, and the laptop receives a "Windows Experience Index" of 4.9 (out of 7.9), with subscores:
Processor: 7.0
Memory(RAM): 5.9
Graphics: 4.9
Gaming graphics: 5.8
Primary Hard Disk: 5.9
The Bad:
My main complaint is that the mouse buttons below the track pad are a bit unresponsive -- you really have slap them if you want to avoid having to press them again. But it's really not that big of deal.
The speakers also kind of suck, so I'd definitely recommend either using headphones (plug-in or a nice bluetooth set like the Sony Ericsson Hi-Fi Bluetooth Stereo Headset with FM Radio) or a nice set of portable speakers.
The Ugly:
Another issue that has come up recently is purely aesthetic: when it's stowed away in my backpack the top seems to get scuffed pretty easily, but the scuff marks can be easily buffed out by hand.
