(More customer reviews)We purchased a Studio 1745 last month. The computer would lock up and logging in was impossible as the mouse and keyboard stop working. The problem we learned is that the motherboard is defective by design. Here is the actual online chat with the Dell tech about this problem.

How do you fix this. You have to hose your BIOS settings and reinstall the default variant as the BIOS configuration in the EPROM is toasted by the least amount of normal static. If you're a geek this is pain in the butt. If you're a computer lightweight, it is pure grief.
This is a fatal design flaw in the motherboard of this computer. Think of it this way. The BIOS is like the stem of your brain. Nothing works without it. Unlike a heart, lungs, liver, etc. it cannot be transplanted. Simply put, a PC with a bad BIOS design such as this is like a baby born with Spinal Bifida. Dell never offered to replace the motherboard, which means a cover up of a fatal flaw. Meanwhile, the message boards are loaded with victims of this design flaw cover up.
