I bought this laptop in Feb/2011 and after reading some favourable reviews on the lenovo website and some other websites.I was looking for a lowpriced thin and light laptop and found it to be a good price compared to other brands, after using it for a month these are my impressions.
PROS:The keyboard and mousepad are good but have a clicky sound to them(some times the keys stick if you type at an angle).
The camera is pretty good.
The sound is pretty good and dolby is a plus.
Thin form factor but not light at all.
Good specs and competitive price.
CONS:A non technical customer like me looks for good quality in a laptop rather than specs (although good specs are a plus) so it seems to me that due to competitive pricing quality seems to have deteriorated a lot
The screen is flimsy with no support whatsoever and flaps around when you pass the laptop to another person at an angle(the hinges are really loose,maybe my piece is defective)
Compared to most laptops on the market this ones has the flimsiest build quality I am suprised even with the flimsy materials it weighs more than required for a light laptop, and this defeats the purpose of buying a thin and light.
I am surprised that the 8 cell battery doesnt last for >3 hours only with web browsing with out any videos or sound and blue tooth turned off,if you use pandora in the back ground it is less than 1hour,summary; Battery life sucks.
The lid bends and flaps when held from the battery side so you can only hold the laptop from the front side when closed.
The usb ports are not correctly placed/oriented so in order to plug in a usb drive you have to fiddle with the ports till it fits.Another issue is they are all lined up so if you have bigger flash drives you can only use one port at a time.
Seems like the metal lid was just pasted on the screen as an afterthought so it has rough edges sticking below both sides of the screen, I almost cut my finger on one edge.
The rubber stoppers on the lid are pitiful and are not properly aligned seems like some one struck them randomly while having a conversation. (Lenovo could have saved some money by not putting them at all).
when closed the lid/screen is semi open so when you put it into in a bag it keeps flapping around.
The charger plug doesn't stick fully into the port and is loose, you can move it like a joystick, it seems like it will fall off if you move the laptop suddenly.
The laptops takes a very long time to charge ,almost 2-3 hours(I have mine in the battery optimized mode).
The placement of ports and power plug are awkward which makes you use the laptop in only one position when plugged in (I have the same issue with most laptops, why dont most brands put the power plug on the back rather than the sides).
BOTTOM LINE:Buy this laptop only if you use your laptop minimally and have a second computer,it wont survive any rough use or a small fall and it wont last very long.although good looking at the first,you will discover overall fit and finish is crappy at best when you start using it,If lenovo keeps making products like these than whatever goodwill it has due to the ex IBM name will vanish.I was considering a Thinkpad for my next purchase but I rather stick to Dell or Apple even if they are pricier.
