I don't have much laptop experience with which to rate this computer, but it seemed to work well before the pin in the power jack broke off, which seems to be a common problem with these models. The good news, maybe, is that these jacks are not soldered in, so I might be able to replace it myself, without too much hassle.
I have been using Vista, because I had not realized that by the time I was certain Windows 7 was going to live up to its hype, I found out that my one-time-good-deal on the new OS had run out. However, it has worked great with my Office 2007 software.
In reviews of other L505 computers, there seems to be certain gripes, only some with which I agree:
For example, the speakers are tiny and tinny, so that headphones or external speakers are highly recommended to enjoy any DVD's or other videos.
On the other hand, I have not noticed any overheating, even when I actually used it on my lap. The hot air seems to be deflected safely away.
I have had no problem with WiFi connectivity, though I never tried to do connect to sites below two bars. The only difficulty I have noticed is trying to watch Netflix at some public sites, and I think the problem must have been at their end.
The biggest nuisance seemed to be that the charger connector kept slipping off in use, and squeezing the plug to provide better grip seems to have lead to the above mentioned consequences. Perhaps, if I am successful in replacing the jack, I might come up with a way of reduce tension/flexing in this connection.
I have not been in contact with any of their service reps, since I am well outside their warranty period, so I can't quite join in the chorus of those condemning them.
But, all in all, I have been satified with the computer, and would recommend it to friend, as long as they match its specifications with the features they want/need.
