(More customer reviews)I have owned the dv7-1132nr for almost two years now. While the look and feel is nice, I've had nothing but trouble with the computer. HP support also was terrible to begin with and it took letters to the company to rectify problems. Several of those problems were never fixed and I just decided I have to live with it. I probably should have spent an additional time complaining, but did not.
1) The heat vent is located pointing down on the back lower left of the computer. The computer gets extremely hot and the heat vent will eventually become brittle. Always have one of those cooling pads for the compture to rest on. If you put it directly on your lap, your legs will become very hot. If you rest it on anything that will block the vent, expect the computer to eventually break down.
2) Small issue, but an issue none-the-less. The keys of the computer do not come off easily without breaking. And they are hard to put back on. So don't expect to ever try to clean under the keyboard.
3) Battery on all the units that my friends and I bought became almost useless within 6 months. HP did not fix this issue when I sent it in for warranty. Instead, they were very belligerent about it. When I sent it in again because of writing to the CEO's office, they still did not fix the battery life of the computer.
4) Connecting wirelessly. Part of the problem is windows vista 64 bit. You may need to edit the registry and set up your router a certain way in order for it to work correctly. A symptom is that after connecting wirelessly to a device, you will lose internet connectivity. And all other laptops will lose internet connectivity. You will also need to have a router that can be set up to the specific security that this fix works in. I'm not convinced it is only an operating system issue. You can search help for this issue with the words "hp laptop" in google and find some hints as to what this takes to set up.
5) Related to battery life is that the computer will shut down when on battery power when batteries reach 80 to 50 percent of power. However, I tried a new battery and it stayed on longer than my old battery, but still shut down at 40%.
On the plus side, it makes a good desktop computer. If you don't need to buy this laptop for it's mobility, it takes up little room on a desktop for having a nice big screen. Just turn the wireless off and use it wired then plug in the power all the time and it works fine.
The feel of the keyboard is nice. The sounds is good. The touchpad has started to wear out visually but works fine.
