(More customer reviews)Bought this notebook based on ASUS' reputation and the many features that I was looking for. The day I opened it and turned it on, it would not boot -- it would make it through the Windows splash screen and then the screen would become a scrambled mess of vertical and horizontal lines ( looking through this scramble, I could barely make out that "check disk" was running ), after a few minutes, the computer would restart and continue the same cycle over and over again. I contacted ASUS support and had to perform a complete system recovery. Over the next few days, the notebook crashed repeatedly ( sometimes it would be unresponsive, other times it would restart on its own and other times certain programs or features wouldn't work at all until after rebooting. Over the week or so that I owned this notebook, I had to make several support calls to ASUS and, on at least 4 or 5 occasions, perform the on-board system recovery ( wiping out any information that I had saved on the notebook and restoring it to the original factory state ). Then, one day the notebook crashed and, because I was by now so well-versed in performing the system recovery, I again attempted to restore the computer using the same procedure I had run with ASUS tech support but this time, I got an error message stating "No recovery image found" -- After trying this several times, I again called tech support and was instructed through several checks. During these checks I found that the hard drive, which was factory partioned with a "C drive", a "D drive" and a "hidden partition" with the recovery image, was now unexplainably ONE single partition -- I explained this to tech support and was told that the only solution would be to ship it to their service center to reload the image -- That's it ! No offer to send a replacement and not even an estimate for how long the service and return would take !
I had a MUCH BETTER solution though, I contacted Amazon for an RMA, boxed the P.O.S. up and returned it for a full refund and bought a MUCH better cutomized notebook from HP ! No more ASUS products for me !
